"Gilan Bikshu Suwa Seva Padanama"
Fund-raising Event held at Toronto Maha Vihara, Canada
November 22, 2009
A ‘Pot Luck’ lunch packet sale was organised by a group of Sri Lankans as a fund-raising event on November 22, 2009. The main event was held at the Toronto Maha Vihara, Kingston Road, Toronto. Approximately 500 lunch packets were sold. The prepared food was donated by generous Sri Lankans, and the organizers packed the food and each packet was sold at a price of $5.00 Lunch packets were sold at Toronto Maha Vihara, West End Buddihist Temple in Mississauga and the Brampton Buddhist Mission Centre.
The event was a great success with people donating food and purchasing lunch packets. The generosity and kind-heartedness shown by those involved was an inspiration.
A special note of ‘thank you’ goes to Ven. Ahangama Rathanasiri Thero, Ven. Kulugammana Dammawasa Thero and Ven. Wijaysiripura Pannasara Thero for allowing the event to be held at the temple premises. Charmaine Karunatilleke and Asoka Pinnaduwage spearheaded the event with the help of Dushanthi Pinnaduwage, Sandya Upathilake, Hema Jayasinghe, Nilanthi Hettige, Badra De Zoysa, Menaka Karunanayaka Shanthi Waragoda, Rohini De Zoysa, Shiroma Saputhantri, Mallika Karunaratne, Pusathi Wijesekara, Ajantha Dias, Padmini Gunarathna and all others who helped in numerous ways to raise funds for this worthy cause.
The proceeds of this pot luck lunch packet sale goes to the Jinaratana Gilan Bhikshu Suwa Sewa Padanama, Mount Lavinia.
Much merit to everyone who took part in this meritorious act of generosity.
The fund-raising event was a great success. C$ 3476 was raised and handed over to Sunil & Dilly Weeraratne to be given to Ven. Gothama - the President of the Padanama.
