>> MagéLanka was started in 2007 by a group of a few Sri Lankan expatriates and former expatriates who, grateful to the country of their birth, were constantly looking for ways to give something in return, to the country and to the people they had once left behind.
When the Tsunami hit the island in 2004, Sri Lankans everywhere were looking for ways to help. They helped organize donation efforts that brought thousands of dollars of food, medical supplies, clothing and monetary proceeds to Sri Lanka.
They did what they could and watched large organizations go steadily into Sri Lanka with the hope of aid and rebuilding behind them. At the end, they felt there was still much more to be done.
They wanted to help the people they knew were the heart of Sri Lanka, with 100% of proceeds going to them, nothing to overhead, nothing wasted.
In Sri Lanka, Dilly met Koshika, a young mother who had lost her home to the Tsunami and who was supporting her six-person household with her meager earnings as a cleaning woman in the Colombo suburbs.
Dilly got in contact with Sunil, Devika, and Yasmin, and together they began to make plans to help Koshika and her family. With Koshika's project, they set the building blocks of what would later become MagéLanka.
