Ramya a helpless domestic worker in need of help to repair her house - Dasun residing in New York and Shalini in Perth, Australia whilst planning their wedding for 23rd December came up with a very heart-warming and generous idea where they want to donate the money they would otherwise be spending as wedding favors. This kind gesture of this young couple is a good example for other young people to think of the less fortunate while enjoying the blessings that they have. Not having a wedding favor would not affect any guest but the money they donate to Ramya would make such a big difference to this helpless woman and her two kids. Thank you Dasun and Shalini for your kindness. Great way to start your new life together. You can be very happy each time you think of your kind deed.

Koshika's house by the sea
Koshika and her family of five live in a small makeshift house at the edge of the Sri Lankan coast, just a few paces from the miles of Indian Ocean that destroyed her first home almost four years ago. She works to support her family as a domestic worker in Ratmalana where she met MagéLanka members Dilly, Devika and Yasmin. In her MagéLanka found a kind and self-sacrificing woman who needed help for a second chance at a home for her family.
Find out how MagéLanka, with help from Sri Lankans around the world, is gathering resources to build Koshika and her family a new home. (Project completed successfully in Dec 2008)
Chandani's family business
The gift of a fishing rod. That is how we describe our work for Chandani and her family. Chandani used to buy brooms and re-sell them in the areas surrounding Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital and largest city. In this way she met Dilly, who first suggested to Chandani that someday she might make the brooms herself and save on a great deal of cost. From this conversation a plan began to seed. With a little birthday investment from Yasmin, Magelanka helped set Chandani up with the beginnings of her own family business.

Rukshan's Gift
In America, from thousands of miles away, Rukshan & Kusala Wijesekera were looking for a way to help children in Sri Lanka. With the help of members of MagéLanka, they began to sponsor extra educational assistance for two boys from a poor fishing community in Sri Lanka's Angulana beach. With a contribution every month, they were able to give the boys new school materials, clothing, and extra tutoring in the subjects they were struggling in. His good deed went on to help the young boys' tutor further his hard-earned education at the University of Colombo.
Oct 2010 - (the two older boys have now found jobs and are contributing positively towards society)
